Blackwood Company Dog Food 1

Terrible ingredients! Two of my puppy buyers have tried Blackwood 1000 and could tell the difference in the coats of their dogs from the coats of the other pups in the litter. They switched to my recommended foods. The first ingredient of a dog food should be a meat not a meal. The second ingredient is corn which is of little value and many dogs have allergies to. Animal Fat should not be added if the meat is of good quality. Citric Acid has been linked to Bloat in Bloat studies. This food has two sources of Citric Acid in it. Beet pulp also has very little value for nutrition. I use Solid Gold, Natural Balance, and Wysong on a rotating basis and my dogs show the results of good food. We have some of the top winning Weims in the showring, 3 Futurity winners this year, a Top 10 for 3 yrs in a row, a top stud dog, and dogs in training for Senior and Master Hunter titles. A well known field trainer that I asked about Blackwood told me that the dogs fed this brand cannot keep up with the other dogs in the field stamina-wise.

The 1000 formulation is a maintanance formula and not meant for puppies or performance dogs....the 2000 formula is their most popular and used by many performance people with excellent results. The most preferred meat ingredient in a kibble should eb a meal not just meat with the water included.....do more research.

While I agree with you that Blackwood is crap, Eastgsd is right in that the first ingredient should be a meal and not just the meat w/water. Many people seem to think that meal and by-products are the same thing. While by-products are crap, meal just means they have taken the water out of the meat. Solid Gold is an excelent food, however Natural Balance just got recalled and Unless you are feeding Archetype from Wysong, their other formulas leave little to be desired. Try Nature's Variety with your Solid Gold. I think you will like what you see with rotating those two brands together.
