"Partial Birth" Abortion

reviewed by asskickingboots

On October 21, 2003, the US Senate approved a bill that would ban so called "partial birth" abortions. The vote pleased anti-abortion activists, but was seen as in violation of the historic Roe V. Wade decision by pro choice activists.

"Partial Birth" Abortion 5

You have to consider this important because it essentially is legalized murder. The dirty little secret to partial birth abortion is that the majority of the time it is done because the child has downs syndrome and the parents don't want to deal with that. Whenever you start referring to partial birth abortion for what it is, killing retarded babies, you can see the ethical issues at stake here.

Though many argue that this is simply thinly veiled eugenics and infanticide it is not. The vast majority do not end a pregnancy because they do not want a less than perfect child. Some of the fetuses or infants will be born with their insides on the outside (if you catch my drift) or lacking a brain beyond the brain stem or worse. In other words, fatal conditions that left to "go naturally" entail a painful and brief existence. No one but the mother (typically one who wants and loves the child) and the father should have a say in this matter. It should never be left in the hands of the average "Joe"/"Jane" who doesn't even bother to educate him/herself on the issue before passing judgement on a grief-stricken parent. It is amazing how wonderfully black and white an issue becomes when one has no stake in the outcome--to me that sort of response epitomizes cruel indifference to human suffering.
