Spherion Staffing

I worked for Spherion for almost a month. I worked for a company called Hewitt. Spherion interviewed me and hired me right away. Then about 2 or 3 weeks later they wanted to do a background check and drug test. SO I had to take my own personal time on the weekend to do the drug test. After doing so I worked another 2 weeks. I had about an hour commute. When I got in on a Tuesday, the Spherion contact came into the training room to speak with me. She led me into a private room and told me they were letting me go due to the background check. Prior to working for this agency I worked directly for a bank and had extensive background check and finger printing and my backgound was fine. Spherion let me go because I had an fine on my record for a check that was issued. I worked for a company that before they went bankrupt issued a check to another company. I along with another employee was an authourized signer for this company. The other company brought a lawsuit against the company I worked for along with the signers on the check so the company eventually issued payment and resolved the issue out of court. Spherion let me go because they said this was on my record. It was not. I contacted the county and it was issued like a citation. Spherion treated this like some kind of criminal offense and it was neither a misdemeanor or felony. All it was was a fine. The clerk provided me with documentation for this fine which supports it was no conviction and it was a suite settled out of court. I actually had nothing at all to do with the entire situation besides the intial issuing of the check. Spherion then treated me like I was some kind of criminal and I don't even have a record. I am a college graduate with 2 BAs. Spherion then told me with the information I provided from the clerk that this has to be expunged from my record. I told the county and they said there is nothing to be expunged because this was a fine not a charge. The company resolved the issue on my behalf. I still have not received any apology for the humiliation Spherion put me through for their error. It was not my fault they didn't know how to read a background check and came to the wrong conclusion. I would tell anyone that you never want to work for an agency like this. They knew they were going to let me go and that I traveled far but instead of telling me not to come in they waited until I worked about 2 or more hours that day and came into the class and hauled me off like I was some type of criminal.

This isn't the fault of Spherion Staffing. Anytime there is a crime against the FDIC, such as a fine with a check, you CANNOT work for an institution insured by the FDIC. It's just policy. And it's easy to get the thing expunged from your record. True, they might have put you on administrative leave and give you some time to sort it out, but they have a policy for the people they work for, as well.
