Italian food is much more than pizza and pasta. In Northern Italy sauces are more cream based and food not as spicy, while further south, tomato's and garlic play a more important role. I myself love Southern Italian food, the spicier and more garlicky the better. Pizza is still very popular in Italy, but it is not the Americanized version we have here with all the toppings like Hawaiian pizza, Taco pizza etc. Pizza in Italy, done right, is simple, with just a thin crust, a little sauce, fresh cheese and basil, delicious !!!!!
