Brigham Young University's 1984 NCAA Football Championship

BYU defeated Bo Schembeckler's Michigan Wolverines in the Holiday Bowl to top off a 13-0 season. It was the first (and last) modern national championship that was decided in a bowl game played before New Years Day.

Some teams defeat Oklahoma, Florida State or Miami on the way to national championships. At least in this instance, others can tout of their victories over Hawaii and UTEP. This was the first (modern) NCAA National Football Championship wherein the winning team's last game was played before New Years Day.
