Our founding fathers were not Bible-believing Christians; they were deists. A necessary consequence of these beliefs was a rejection of many doctrines central to the Christian religion.Fundamentalist Christians are currently working overtime to convince the American public that the founding fathers intended to establish this country on "biblical principles," but history simply does not support their view.Clearly, the founders of our nation intended government to maintain a neutral posture in matters of religion.Separation of church and state is what the founding fathers wanted for the nation, and we must never allow anyone to distort history to make it appear otherwise.
