In regard to kellysaun post about the BUYER/ SELLER BEWARE this is a common scam that takes different forms. It is not in the least unique to AutoTrader. The mechanics of the thing is "always" the same and "Nigeria" is the most common place it originates.
The person always overpays you and has a reason for this. In most instances you are allowed to keep a percentage of the overpayment. The check arrives and you deposit it. You send the difference via Western Union. The check eventually bounces and your account is charged back. If you have a significant amount it the account to begin with, you've just been screwed. More importantly it doesn't work if you don't have at least the same amount in your account as the money you sent by Western Union.
Anyway AutoTrader is the best. Also the best to determine what to sell your car for.
Imagine using NADA to find the value of your auto, or Edmunds, or Kelley Blue Book to determine the value of your car. Guess what? AutoTrader is the "live" real time value of your car. IOW, you don't need NADA to get info from dealers a month later to find out what the cars are selling for. Today, right now, you can not only get the price of cars selling in your zip code, you can expand it or move it to wherever you like. IOW, if seven cars just like yours with the same number of miles, same condition are selling for $15,000 today, right now and NADA says your car is worth $18,000. You are going to have to wait until the seven cars are sold for anyone to be the slightest bit interested in your car. Ditto for the reverse... giving it away at NADA prices but the real live market is selling the same ones much higher.
Basically AutoTrader has made the NADA and the likes obsolete except for loan values.
