People who are dumber and smarter than me think that Kansas is a cultural wasteland. . .

Well people who are dumber and smarter than both of us think a lot of things – which doesn’t necessarily make them so. It didn’t take a grand world tour for me to realize at a fairly young age that more places than not could be deemed “wastelands” of some type or another depending on your priorities. I’m not saying it’s perfect here in so-called “flyover country” – far from it. But, since I haven’t been to either Eden OR heaven, I’ve yet to find that spot. Still, with all its glaring faults, the vast area between New York and LA is still not as bad as some people seem to enjoy believing with such relish. If it were, then it would be a little hard to explain some of the various things produced here - including talented people who have made differences in art, education, literature, science, entertainment, and agriculture. It’s only fair to accept and admit the short comings of any subject up for discussion. But I find it at best unrealistic and at worst pure bigotry to simply damn something without trying to honestly see its various facets. If you can’t at least try then, in the end you are only shortchanging yourself as well as announcing the limit of your knowledge.
