I will extend this assertion and say that around 60% of the people who have cell phones in America don't need them.
Have you ever listened (how could you not considering the volumes people feel free to use when blabbing away in public) to the caliber or content of some of the conversations you are forced to endure while standing in lines at banks or coffee shops? Commonly it is just mindless blather. The chattering of people of who are too shallow or insecure to be left alone with their own thoughts and enjoy an opportunity to reflect upon something.
