Sometimes, especially on your first day and in interviews, a bit of brown nosing doesn't hurt, just as long as it isn't sick sweet or insincere. I think I would rather someone suck up to me then be horrible to me. But doing this too much, people will think you are a fool and will actually feel either yucky around you, or will be angry with you.
