Here's an odd fact about Barnesandnoble.com's business strategy. If you want to be a member of their affiliate program, you need to promise not to have any other retailers of books, music, or videos on your site (e.g. Amazon). Given that the commissions that this company pays (around 5-7%) is comparable to Amazon's commission, they have no business demanding exclusivity. I have a hard time believing that any company that would try to pursue a protectionist strategy online really "gets it." My take is that Amazon is going to continue to eat these guys for lunch.
