Molfan, I read somewhere that giving giftcards is considered "tacky" because the gift giver doesn't put in the effort to find the receiver a good present....but I disagree.
Everyone I know that I have given giftcards to have enjoyed their presents. I think it's better to give them a GC to their favorite store and let them go crazy. It's a lot more fun that way.
