
Born in 1956, Tom Hanks has portrayed a number of characters, from a 12-year-old boy trapped in a man's body in "Big" to a homosexual lawyer dying of AIDS in "Philadelphia." His role in the latter earned him an Oscar, followed by another the next year for his performance in "Forrest Gump." Hanks also made memorable appearances in the movies "Saving Private Ryan" and "The Green Mile."
