Cincinnati Reds

The franchise was originally established in 1876 as the Cincinnati Red Stockings. They changed their name to the Reds in 1878, but disbanded for ten years. With the exception of a six year period when they were known as the Redlegs (1953-1958), the team has been the Reds since they were re-established in 1890. The franchise has won five World Series championships, most recently in 1990. An NL Central team, the Reds play their home games at Cynergy Field in Cincinnati, OH. Reds in the National Baseball Hall of Fame include Joe Morgan, Johnny Bench, and Tony Perez.

Great team in the 70's, and won the whole thing in '40 and '90 as well. A great town for baseball: until the economics of the game changed some years back. The 70's team was great, but kind of a cold, efficient, methodical bunch: frankly not the most colorful team. I'm taking nothing away from how remarkable they were, but I like teams with lots of characters, like the A's or Red Sox had in that period. Bill Lee, the screwball lefty said: "Jack Webb should be their manager." Lately, they've become a rather boring team.
