UPDATE: Zealots from both sides care about money. The difference from my observation is that when it comes to generosity, liberals tend to prefer that the government handle it while conservatives tend to want to keep the government out of it. Both sides agree that in this land of plenty nobody should go hungry. When confronted with a catastrophe or natural disaster, conservatives reach for the checkbook while liberals start up a new government agency.
ORIGINAL COMMENT 7/27/05: Neither side has a monopoly on gluttonous pigs. Neither side seems capable of (or even interested in) reducing government waste, either, all philosophy aside.
