Hanukkah (also known by many other spelling variations) is the Jewish holiday also referred to as the “Festival of Lights”; Hanukkah, the Jewish word for “Dedication”, is named for the re-dedication and purification of the Temple after the the Maccabees successfully overthrew the Greeks; the significance of the number eight is from the story of the miraculous small amount of oil which lasted eight days for the dedication of the temple.
