I think the topic is perhaps stated a little strongly, All Nations Must Use The Metric System, but it really is a lot easier to quickly calculate and express things in a base 10 system. As someone who grew up using Imperial weights and measures and then switched to metric in my late teens when Canada converted, I can attest that it was easy to learn and not the horrific social and economic burden it was made out to be. My father who was probably in his mid 40's when it happened had a little more trouble converting, but managed it. My grand parents never adapted. My sister-in-law who moved to the U.S. as an adult had no problem switching back to Imperial Measurement. We monkeys are capable of learning. There are still vestiges of the old system used in Canada. Everyone expresses their body weight in pounds, and you often hear people flipping back and forth between expressing measurements in inches and cetimetres. Our football fields are still 110 yards long.
