Well, he was close on this one. Newspeak exists, read an e-mail or text message lately?...lol. It just wasn't mandated by the powers that be like Orwell thought it might, it's creation was organic.
In the same stroke, he thought Newspeak would be a tool to prevent "heresy" - thought and word contrary to the Party, Contemporary "Newspeak" is slowly killing both written and verbal skills, only in a less obvious but more insidious fashion.
