It took me 3 viewings to realize how good a film Amadeus was. The first time I saw it I thought the film was fatally flawed because I deemed the lead character to be completely unbelievable as an artistic genius. I saw it again a short while later and was equally unimpressed with the movie. Several years passed, I got (obviously) older and had a broader range of reference for personality types when I viewed Amadeus a 3rd time. It was almost like watching a different film.
In my opinion, it's one of the 50 best movies ever made. Well directed, beautifully performed and, as I realize now, the star of Amadeus (whose name currently eludes me) couldn't have been better.
