A marriage is an equal partnership. If you can't reach agreements in fundamental issues, you shouldn't marry to begin with. Sometimes, it's appropriate for one partner to defer to the other. I don't believe there should be any set rules about whom, and it should depend on the situation - who has the experience, etc.
