His rant on the Iraqi Republican Guard is one of the funniest I have ever read. Prior to 9/11/01, he was not a libertarian. He was a democrat and a staunch Clinton defender. (When he said, "it's nice to have a president that GETS IT! " I don't think he was referring to Clinton's monogamy)Today he appears to believe all the same things he did back then, but sees the need for America to act like a superpower, in much the same mold as Niall Ferguson.
I know, I know, a guy ought to be able to espouse patriotism and military strength AND still be a democrat. When did it become the kiss of death for a democrat to simply show support for a war?
