This bridge collapsed in 1940 during a wind storm, it was coined the name Galloping Gertie. The bridge deck was reconstructed but even today it can be scary crossing this bridge as it has very narrow driving lanes with the combination of being very high up, not reccomended for those with vertigo. Fortunately this will be alleviated as traffic congestion in this area is very heavy and they are constructing another bridge span parralell to this one.
