1966 2 door hardtop

With sales as brisk as ever and General Motors still a full year away from the introduction of their Camaro / Firebird pony cars, Ford Motor Company knew better than to seriously mess with a good thing. Except for mostly cosmetic changes, the 1966 Mustang was identical to the 1965 model. The five dial instrument cluster which had been part of the GT option package in 1965 became the standard dash for 1966, thus eliminating the sweep speedometer with warning lights all together. The heater wiring was standardized whereas in 1965 there had been 2 methods of controlling the speed of the blower motor. The pleats in the door panels, the center section of the dash pad and the gas cap were changed but they were not radical changes and are often overlooked by folks who are not familiar with the car. The most noticeable difference for 1966 was the grill which was changed from a honeycomb mesh style to thin horizontal bars. In all other respects the 1966 Mustang was unchanged from 1965 and it was during the 1966 model year that sales for the first generation Mustang reached the one million mark.
