Ability to Delete Your RateItAll Account 4

** I have to admit, this one's tough to see in practice. I still think it's the right thing to do though, with the possible exception of the fact that when a reviewer with weblists chooses to leave, he/she is deleting other people's reviews. That doesn't seem fair to me.**

I think it's important. People should be able to leave and remove their stuff whenever they want to, without a lot of drama.

RIA reviewers (as in any online community) enjoy the privilege of contributing, sharing and learning from the group. Their contributions advance the site's efficiency, content and community. The same way being allowed an account is a privilege the webmaster grants-so should the decision about which content, once submitted, can be removed. Consider the ability to have your comments/web lists anonymized. If you want really want your thoughts to remain yours-keep them to yourself or have your own site. Users need to understand they are no longer dealing with some foggy construct-online communities are real--simply erasing from view their words is no more effective than telling someone to forget what you just said. And...how often is the user deleting the account simply attempting to take their thoughts with them? In my almost two years on RIA it has been my experience that its not proprietary concerns (self-preservation) driving the decision to delete but spitefulness (taking my ball and going home) or attention seeking (this time I am really leaving).
