He is a Commie who was holding power when the USSR fell apart. He engineered a couple elections that have maintained him in power by creative counting, intimidation, etc.
He is a secularist and is trying to hold the radical Moslems in check. He is one of our staunch allies in the war on terrorism.
Not exactly a true democrat is he? Maybe we should overthrow him, because he is not democratic enough, so some version of the Taliban can come to power!
