John Chaney coached Division II Cheyney State for 11 years and won the Division II championship in 1978. In 1982 Chaney took over as head coach at Temple where he has posted a record of 468-210(.690). Chaney has led Temple to a record of 23-17(.575) in the NCAA tournament but has never reached the Final Four. His career record(including DII) is 693-269(.720) through 2003.

As a kid I always thought it was funny that this guy coached the Owls because he kind of looks like an owl. I had this video of animated college basketball coaches and he was definetely that. Kicking chairs, screaming, always fired up. You gotta love that in a coach. I was checking out some of his stats - over 700 wins, 18 NCAA tourney berths in 23 years, 5 NCAA regional finals, six Atlantic 10 championships, Atlantic 10 coach of the year 5 times...he's certainly among the elite.
