Phil Collins' ascent to the status of one of the most successful pop and adult-contemporary singers of the '80s and beyond was probably as much of a surprise to him as it was to many others. I can't see him getting in right away. I think that Genesis will make it before him, even though he helped them commercially. He has a very big catalogue of hits. The Disney movie soundtrack Hercules seemed to revitalize people's interest in him. I can't really see him getting in based on his contribution to rock. I can't see him getting in based on the strength of his voice. He doesn't seem to have that distinctive voice that sets him apart like Barry White, Teddy Pendergass, or Tom Waits. He will get in based on his Billboard hits.
