They might not be "special", but I've got a soft spot for common goldfish. Perhaps it's because I hate seeing them sold as "feeders", when I know that, if given the chance, they can be as impressive as any other variety of goldfish.
There have been more than a few of them that I've "rescued" from ending up as a feeder fish. There have been two of them who have grown to twelve inches or slightly more, and I've been happy to tell admirers that they're not of any "special" breed, but they're the result of being common goldfish that are well cared for.
As with any goldfish, they require a LOT of filtration needs, and they need a lot of space (if you want them to grow to their fullest!). Don't keep them in those little goldfish bowls, they deserve better than that.
