This not only goes for grooming appointments, but for veterinary visits, too.

You might think that, since your dog "knows you", you feel that your touch and presence might calm your dog down, but you must understand that the special bond that you have with your pet does not necessarily override the dog's anxiousness and fears in a what is a very strange and possibly frightening situation for them. Interfering with a groomer or veterinary personnel while they are handling your pet may cause the pet to feel overwhelmed in an already stressful situation. Many injuries have occurred when well-meaning pet owners have tried to lend a helping hand; it's best to let the groomer/vet tech/veterinarian do their job.
