Joseph Lieberman

It is a shame that the Democratic Party has shunned those within their ranks just because they choose to stand for what they believe- as opposed to towing the regular party-line. Joseph Lieberman, only six years removed from being a respected Vice-Presidential candidate, has been maligned, distorted, cast-aside, and finally defeated in the primaries by his party- a party he has stood proudly for and with through thick and thin. In any case, Lieberman has been a consistent Democrat throughout his entire public life, voting the same issues considered 'liberal'. Yet, Lieberman's sin, according to most Connecticut Democrats was his support of the Iraq War. They forget that Lieberman was a leading voice for most issues they hold dear to their hearts, and instead voted to oust this good man because he supported a single cause he truly believed in. What does this actually say about those in the Democratic Party who supposedly hold exclusive rights to open-mindedness and inclusion in our society (as opposed to the supposedly-exclusive Republican establishment)? It seems hypocritical, doesn't it? But it seems that in the Democratic Party, you are either for them- or against them. And woe to those who do not prescribe to THEIR brand of open-mindedness and inclusion.
