Fern they don't call them the Amazin's for nothin. I'm a huge Mets fan and though they blew it yesterday in the series against the Evil Empire as they are wont to do more often then not, I'm fairly pleased with the excitement out at Shea these days. I've grown up loving this team threw the Bamburger years, Torre's early years, Torborg, Dallas Green and Art Howe and though they normally come up on the short end of the stick they have delievered some of the most memorable moments in baseball history. Their current team won't be competing for the series title this year but they're playing competitive ball. And with the young players like Wright and Reyes, the acquisitions of Martinez and Beltran I wouldn't be suprised if the Mets are back in the series next year or the year after if they plug a couple holes.

*****I left this post last year and wanted to once again comment on this current Mets team. Im literally horse from cheering in my living room last night and have broken my company's dress code to don full Mets attire at work today in jubilation of their first division championship in 18 years! Beyond winning this season- and my belief that they ARE the best team in baseball- I can't say enough about how great this team is to root for. For years the Mets overpaid for impassive at best (Eddie Murray, Bobby Bonilla) apathetic at worst (Alomar) talent that never played up to par. The 86 team was full over ripping characters who lived as hard as they played, were also a hell of a lot fun to watch and root for but they're off the field antics cost them a chance at a legacy. This team- this 2006 team- is full of good guys who love the game and respect the game. They all play hard and are coached well. This year has had its spectacular games: comebacks from 8 runs down and walk offs on numerous occasions. A couple downs- Wagners torturous blow save against the Yanks at Shea when he blew a 4-0 lead in the 9th- But it was nothing but exciting all year! I love this team! Reyes, Wright, Pedro, Beltran, Delgado, Valentin... all them! They're gonna do it this year!
