Jerry Lucas was the most phenomenal player of his day and perhaps still the best ever college basketball player. His team went something like 78-6 for 3 years and he was the first player to go well over the 60% mark in field goals while dominating in rebounds like none other before him.. His outlet pass was the best ever as he fired the ball to mid court while in the air during a rebound and hit his running teammate with a perfect pass most of the time for easy layups. He took the game to a very new level and ushered in the modern era of basketball. And yet his soft, baby powder hook shot was a thing of beauty that he rarely missed. If you haven't had the privilege of being familiar with him then do yourself a favor and look up his stats and a you will be amazed. I had the privilege of attending everyone of his home games at St. John's Arena in Columbus, Ohio and watched he and John Havlicek and Mel Nowell and Larry Siegfried perform and many called that team the best ever for a lot of years. Look it up and you will be in for a treat. Jerry Lucas was the best I ever saw and I saw most all of the greats. He is the only college basketball player to score 30 and get 30 rebounds in an NCAA tournament game. Wow, there's a record that will stand for a while.
