Since dry wit and cerebral humor is generally my preference, "The Bob Newhart Show" was right up my alley. If memory serves, Newhart has always claimed that his style is "buttoned-down", and that seems like an appropriate description. Newart's straight man to a cast of relative eccentrics had been done before and since, but never any better than on this series. Bob isn't even safe at home, as his neighbor (Bill Daily) is just as maladjusted as his psychology patients; however, wife Emily usually serves as his harbor in the tempest. As icing on the cake, in my opinion the show had one of the best theme songs (i.e. "Home To Emily") in television history.
