Roxy Music 5

Didn't make enough of a dent stateside charts to get consideration in an Ameican Institution like the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but they produced a singularly unique, high quality body of work and were as influential as Bowie on the better music of the late 70's, early 80's.

If there was a real Hall of Fame, Island Records would get some kind of grand award for providing 95% of the listenable music in the early '70s. They had just about every decent artist on their label with the exceptions of The Stooges, NY Dolls, Velvet Underground, Dictators and Modern Lovers.

Those groups wouldn't be at the top of my early '70s Island list, but they were still way ahead of most of the popular dreck the rest of the music business was annoying me with. My faves were The Wailers, John Cale, Eno and Nico.

Hey you two, might I suggest you start a Great Island Artists of the 60's and 70's list to continue this conversation. I'm trying to tidy up in here.
