Iams
2
I am or was new to owning a pet on my own. I am a college student, and my brother had to go off to grad school where he couldnt have pets so I took his dog (a springer spaniel) for him. He had fed the dog many foods apparently including Iams. In the transitioning process to going to grad school he was short on money and started feeding his dog kibbles and bits. He had no knowledge of pet food whatsoever, and neither did I taking on the dog. Feeding him kibbles and bits, the dog gradually started getting skin and coat problems, and I took him into the vet. The vet gave him suppliments and handed me a flyer to look for dog food with. I made a compromise for Iams since I am on a college budget. The dog got a little better for awhile, but then developed ear infections, and now has a very bad skin problem in which he is constantly scratching and bitting at his paws. I did extensive research on different foods and today switched to Innova EVO. I will gradually make the change to make it easier on him. I might should have tried regular Innova first, which has less protein, but I will see how this works. Bottom line: Iams is probably better than Kibbles and Bits, but definently not good overall.
