12/13/2006 | It was a given that I'd find 'Ridge' pitchin' in on this topic, seeing as he seems to have championed, if not mastered, the subtle tone of the instrument. All of a sudden, I've been playing closer attention to the the flute in classical music, not so much as performed solo but, for instance, to Mozart's and Beethoven's effective ensemble use of it in their piano concertos (for flute and harp by W.A., also) and symphonies, or in Wagner's broader scaled works even. All of a sudden, I might have become a convert. So, thanks are due here to 'Ridge' and 'LimpinT' for furthering the cause through lively discourse. |
