Outback Steakhouse 1

As an Australian, this restaurant sounds like a joke! Very tacky. I'd like to ask what the hell is a "blooming onion". I've lived in Australia all my life and have never, ever heard of a "blooming onion". Other things that strike me as inconsistant are the way menu options are listed, e.g. In Australian we actually use the word "prawn", instead of shrimp. The entrees sound rediculous; "kookaburra wings"? The service and ambiance sounds questionable at best. This seems to me like this is just your average steakhouse with a very unauthentic menu and atmosphere.

I could not agree more! Amercians can be so damn stupid when it comes to marketing ploys. Like going to Europe at Busch Gardens Williamsburg (My Gawd!) Also like French Poupon mustard. My fellow French business colleagues laughed and laughed when they saw this in the States! And of course, since the French always come across with an air of arrogance you can just imagine.

I know Outback Steakhouse never tried to be authentic Australian cuisine. They are an American Steakhouse with a cheesy Australian theme based off of Crocodile Dundy. And we all know how authentic that movie was. They are playing down the Australian theme of late, and while its initial marketing idea is cheesy, it is great quality for a moderately priced chain restaurant.
