Horrible. First of all, the decision to drop the bomb had already been made; but, if you want to give him credit for that, so be it. He decimated our military starting in 1945 then wanted to use it in 1950. Many of the first soldiers and Marines in Korea didn't even have ammo rounds for their clips. MIGs had a field day, blowing our antiquated B-29's out of the sky like shooting fish in a barrel. This guy was the godfather and originator of the "no-win policy". His bumbling also served to cause a recession by the time he was kicked out on his rump.

Victor: It is true that the decision had already been made, but he was now the President and he could've rescinded that order. But, as English Physicist Freeman Dyson said, "It would've taken a man of iron will to stop it." As for the B-29s? You used what you had...and let's not forget the ever-increasing role of that great madman Curtis LeMay at this time in history. Plus, the B-47 would have been ill-equipped for the role, even if it was available.

I agree that, as far as the bomb, the wheels were already in motion and that it would have been nearly impossible to stop them. I also agree that it was the right decision at the time. That said, Truman labored under the same illusion that plagued Bill Clinton; namely, that one can gut the military then wave the "big stick".
