Christian--What qualifies a person to be a Christian? 5

Ask God...

UPDATE: Since someone has taken it upon himself to take issue with my answer, perhaps I shall expand my review. For the record, I think predestination is absolute bunk, but it is my expirience that God qualifies Christians to be Christians by His grace since we are incapable of qualifying ourselves. When we stop asking God for direction we are not accepting his message, and the idea that we know what He is thinking is a presumption on par with the Original Sin of Adam and Eve, so I prefer to ask God about everything and assume nothing.

He has already spoken. If you listen (that is read His Word) than you don't have to ask Him.

Evidently, you believe your views and presumptions are more valid than the Word of God. I tend to differ.

And you, lmorovan, have the unutterable presumption to state you "know" the will of God. Pride goeth before the fall.

lmorovan commented 586 days ago.
I know what God said about His will. If you don't like it, take it up with Him. I didn't write His Word.

I presume only that God knows better than I do, Imorovan. Read the review again. You seem to have a presumtion or two about me, but I can't speak for you, so do you have anything to share with the class?

numbah16tdhaha commented 586 days ago.
So, your interpretations of His Word are not subject to question? Careful...

lmorovan commented 586 days ago.
There are teaching in the Bible that are so plain and clear that any interpretation is only necessary with the purpose of making them say what they are not saying.

FranksWildYears commented 586 days ago.
Thanks for clearing that up.

That too is a presumption, Imorovan. A passage of scripture can say different things to me depending on when I read it. I may hit a particular verse that I haven't read since I was a teenager and what it meant to me then and what it means to me now are totally different. Can you account for that without calling me confused? Surprise me...

numbah, the Bible is different from any other book precisely for the reasons you say. It is new every day, and it tells us new things every time we read it. But if you look at the words, they are the same. Isn't that absolutely amazing? Yet, because they tell us everyday something new, doesn't make them different. What makes them amazing is the fact that WE change every day, and the same unchanged words, acquire new meanings. That much said, there are things in the Bible that are not necessarily spiritual, they refer to real and unchanging issued and things that, regardless of when we read them, they always mean the same thing. God gave us a spirit and gave us the Bible to feed our spiritual hunger. But God also gave us the ability to reason and understand, and He encourages us to search for the truths contained in His Word. So, the Bible challenges our spirits and it challenges our intellect.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with a few comments. The Bible has fundamental principals that will never change regardless of times and peoples cultures!. Those principals within the bible are the concrete of Gods plan for us! God does speak to Christians and non-Christian through the Bible alike and He brings PERSONAL lessons to us through something that was written years ago. The bible clearly explains that Salvation is through his grace and is to all men and women. All have a way to God BUT NOT ALL want Christ. Just like the devil chose his vanity over GOD!!! Please this is basic! Doctrine is man made and should always be attested to the word of GOD I feel that you comments/post numbah16tdhaha are pretty close to reality. I'm sorry imorovan I have to disagre. But agree to Disagree!!!

pug, I have nothing against your view and belief. After all, discussing issues in a civil and respectful manner is the best and right way of doing it. Now, regarding Salvation: we are clearly taught in the Bible that we are all (no exception) born enemies of God, and as such, among other things our sinful nature will always be against God and what God says. There is nothing in us that would ever cause us to search and look for having a relationship with our "enemy". There must be something that changes our status from enemy to friend. And that something is the sovereign act of God through which He enables us to become aware of who He is and what His plan is for us. And only God can do that, because, as it is taught in the Bible, there is nothing within us to make us able to do so. Therefore, unless God takes the initiative and changes us, no one would or could become "friend" of God.
