I consider myself a redneck, as I grew up on a farm, I listen to country music,I go deer hunting, and I watch professional wrestling. Guess what, I'm a physics PhD candidate at the University of Iowa.

Singular versus plural pronouns: "Not a whole lot of 'em (them)" Your singular magnificent accomplishment does not negate a cultural rejection of advanced degrees. Happy studying. . .

Maybe so, but gross generalizations of that sort, which may even hold up most of the time, tend to be the sort of thing that causes misunderstandings between groups of people. Statements like this tend to imply that people who embrace their rural upbringing aren't intelligent enough to get an advanced degree, which is just absurd.
