Luther Vandross 3

He was definitely pop for most of his big hits, but his roots come from R&B & soul. I am not saying he was a pop singer (he was definitely from R&B), but he may remembered more for his adult contemporary image by the voters. Best case is for the voters to cast a sympathy vote his way, like with Bobby Darin (who had a similar rock background, but went pop later), but the same didn't happen for Barry White, who also died early.

You are wrong, Luther Vandross is not POP. He is R &B. He did cross over, but he did nothing different to cross. He will alway, be know as a R & B singer. So, he want get in not the end of the world. His roots is always going to be R & B.

I am fully aware of Luther's R&B background. However, the two big hits he will be remembered for by the voters, "Endless Love" and "Dance With My Father", are both pop/adult contemporary ballads. This, in my opinion, will cause them to view him as more of a pop singer rather than the R&B singer that he was.

Like I say you are wrong. "Endless Love" give me a break. Okay, "Dance with my Father",yes he will be know for that. But, it don't make him "POP". You need to rent some of Luther Vandross DVD. Because if you know anything about Luther Vandross. He did not care anything about crossing over to "POP". He had so many other songs that was much better then "Endless Love". Just to name some. "Here and Now" he got his first Grammy for. "House is Not a Home", "Don't want to Be a Fool", The new ones "Shine" and "Got You Home" shall I go on. The point is you don't know what you are talking about. He is R & B, and he will always be know as R & B. Rent the DVD and you can hear it in his own words.
