I coudn't stand Mary Tyler Moore and couldn't take all her whining in the shows she was on, especially this one. My mother HAD to watch it every week and in those days most people only had one TV. Thank God I haven't seen any repeats of this show in years!

I come from a Hispanic background. I watched TV just to Americanize. Still, I saw tradition only--women at home, doing housework, raising kids, obedient to husbands--only The Partridge Family and the Mary Tyler Moore Show exemplified happy, kind and independent women in the lead role--emphasis on HAPPY AND KIND. I'm very grateful. I did get married young, divorced--then began my career, had my own place, struggled with bills, had fun dating, going out alone, traveling alone and with lover(s). I wasn't cheap, loose nor mocked or incomplete---I'm thankful for those characters and the example they set for me and other like me. Where the shows funny? Well, they were wholesome--they were sweet, but they had a GREAT payoff. I don't see the same types on shows now, especially as true to life as MTM's character and wouldn't want to emulate any of them---they seem too stressed, too materialistic. Thank you to the creators and writers of those shows for the mentoring. S
