The Bible says that "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female" 3

This goes off in so many different directions it is amazing.
Anyone who truly believes in Jesus....your heart should break over this...
Jesus said, "All men are welcome at my table".
Want to believe God will judge homosexuals? Okay...just remember..
He will also judge drinkers, smokers, prescription drug junkies, assholes who routinely cut people off in traffic, etc., etc.
Whoever meant whatever with the Bible...Jesus never intended a book to be called "God's word" so that it may be used to beat someone else over the head with.

I am confused...how would gay/lesbian marriage be "funded" by the American taxpayer? I have a Master of Public Administration degree (in addition to my psychology stuff) and have taken both Constitutional Law and Administrative Law, and I do not know what statute this is covered under. I was also married...and I do not recall saving any money by filing married tax returns over what I would've paid filing individually. Please help me on this one. Where is this "funding" source???

AutzenMaven commented 997 days ago.
Work it out. I have. Make up an imaginary couple, with incomes for each. Do them individually and then do them jointly...please show me the "BIG" advantage. I have never managed to find it; neither has my CPA.

AutzenMaven commented 997 days ago.
Have you worked it out yet?

AutzenMaven commented 997 days ago.
The deduction is based upon what the individual rate would be...added together and then factored. They don't call it "the marriage penalty" for nothing.

AutzenMaven commented 997 days ago.
If both spouse's work, and they are in a "middle-class" tax bracket, the hit they take is VERY significant.

AutzenMaven commented 997 days ago.
BTW, the Marriage Tax Penalty Act of 2003 eliminated the penalty for SOME couples, but not for all. The 2005 update didn't fix it either. All I know is my wife and I got hosed royally filing jointly.

magellan commented 997 days ago.
Please AutzenMaven, let's not let the facts get in the way of the rhetoric.

AutzenMaven commented 997 days ago.
Victor: If marriage tax equality is what gay and lesbian couples want...man...are they asking for the wrong "right!"

AutzenMaven commented 997 days ago.
And...Victor...ignoring easily reasearched facts presented by Autzen...neglects the fact that he is wrong. I asked you for the relevant U.S.C. codes, and you did not respond, or even do me the dignity of looking up marriage tax penalty on Google, etc. This whole tax rate for marrieds thing is a HUGE bone of contention in both houses of congress and it has been a hot-button item since around 1980 or so. All I know, is that I have a VERY competent CPA doing taxes and that we get screwed every damned year if we file jointly. Now, if you have children, you get a break of some sort...a modest one at that. But, if you are a dual career couple who make a decent living, you get screwed!

Man have we ever drifted off of the subject? Just for the record... Victor, I save money now that I'm married.

AutzenMaven commented 997 days ago.
Donovan: Not off of the subject at all. This was posited as one of the "big benefits" that gays wanted in "marriage." I am merely pointing out that not everyone makes an income small enough to actually benefit from the "benefit" provided. That is not intended as a put down, but rather as a point. This is not a vlaid criticism.

Donovan commented 997 days ago.
So your saying I deserve a raise?

AutzenMaven commented 997 days ago.
Donovan: Why, if it were up to me...I would give everyone a raise...alas... LOL Let's just say that my ex was a very well-known designer/artist and I had a very successful counseling practice, so we made more than the average couple. No brag, just fact. So many things go into what tax you pay; and marital status is merely one of those things. Unfortunately, the marriage penalty still exists...and most of the gays I knew (they were fellow designers with my wife) also made a great deal of money, so "marriage" and its "benefits" would have actually worked against them and their partners.

magellan commented 997 days ago.
Here's a decent article on the marriage tax: http://www.bankrate.com/brm/itax/tax_watch/20010209 a.asp And here's a quote: "Not so long ago, almost half of America's married couples discovered each April 15 that they had exchanged an unspoken vow during their wedding ceremonies to pay more taxes. Thanks to the peculiarities of the tax code, those couples found that when they earned roughly the same salaries, they tended to pay more in taxes than they would if both were single filers. This so-called marriage penalty showed up in 1969, when Congress tried to equalize what was then an unfair advantage couples held over single taxpayers."

AutzenMaven commented 997 days ago.
magellan: ...and if you go on in that article, you will see that the changes effected in 2003 STILL did not completely erase the problems with the marriage penalty. The proposed changes in 2006 did not fare well and, even if it had, they STILL would not have fully addresssed the issues.

AutzenMaven commented 997 days ago.
magellan: Excellent article, but do note that that article does not cover the changes in 2003 and 2006, which STILL didn't address the issue. If couples come into a marriage with the same relative incomes, they quickly find out that they are bumped into a new tax bracket, without even a deduction that equals twice the individual deduction. hard to believe, but true. My ex and I made pretty much exactly the same amount of money every year (now our cases were a bit different because of the fact that we both owned and operated our own businesses), almost to the dollar actually. We NEVER could work up a scenario that paid off better than filing seperately. For people who make lesser incomes, or those couples where only one spouse works, there would be a benefit, but that is not often the case anymore. So, to end it, there is STILL a marriage tax penalty. If you saved money through the marriage deduction; hooray for you...but you are the exception, not the rule.

Great review Vic. As I've said elsewhere, my personal faith is more than a little ambivalent, but I really doubt that any kind of caring God meant for his devotees to be as abusive as some are.

And as a drinker and an occasional asshole who cuts people off in traffic, not to mention a user of profane language and an unrecalcitrant lecher, I 'spect I gotta lotta 'splainin' to do some day.

Astromike commented 188 days ago.
What list is gonna be debated next, abortion? Please no!!

irishgit commented 188 days ago.
huh?

Astromike commented 188 days ago.
u know git....gay marriage is a hot topic (like abortion). Its a never ending argument.

kamylienne commented 188 days ago.
re: "Jesus said, "All men are welcome at my table"" Very refreshing to hear that point of view, Vic, I sincerely thank you for sharing it.

Gris commented 188 days ago.
Well said Vic.
Mike: We'll save that abortion list for when things get boring.

Astromike commented 188 days ago.
Gris: lol appreciate it

Astromike commented 188 days ago.
I agree with vic and also Carrie Prejean. Does that make me a bad person? I hope Perez Hilton doesn't find me commenting here.

Victor83 commented 187 days ago.
Thanks guys. This is a good example of religion being brought directly into politics...dangerous ground, as others have pointed out.
I recently came close to losing a very dear friend because she is "different". Our society can be so cruel anyway; I just find the "God doesn't like you" argument to be over the top.

Victor83 commented 187 days ago.
BTW Mike....I get what you are saying. I did not suddenly become a "lee-brul" (as CS would say)
This item deals with the Bible and religion. My original review and subsequent comments were way off topic.
The bottom line is, politics aside, in my opinion, Jesus loves and values homosexuals as individuals.

Gris commented 187 days ago.
I agree with you Vic, about the Jesus loves us bit. But out of curiousity, Why are your Politics different?

Victor83 commented 187 days ago.
Gris...you lost me. Why are my politics different than what?

Gris commented 187 days ago.
Why do your Political beliefs differ from your Religious beliefs? It's not my business, I'm just asking.

Victor83 commented 186 days ago.
As I have stated elsewhere, my political belief is that marriage is between one man and one woman. Politically, I am against the few forcing the many to accept something they don't agree with.
But none of that means I am better than homosexuals in the eyes of God.
Hope that clarifies.

ayn commented 185 days ago.
There you go Vic, being difficult again.
