United States of America 5

I was not born in the US, but the state I live in is great. I have the mountains to the west, plains to the east and a city that thrives!!! The people in Colorado are on most accounts some of the most wonderful people I have met and they are very kind and approachable. The America I live in is superb and I'm grateful that I have been allowed to stay here with my family. I have one thing that I must say I don't like; most Americans do live in a bubble. This in no way puts down Americans, but I believe this is why people have found it hard to get on with this nation; this I feel is very sad. In general I would say that most American people are pleasant, honest and very welcoming.

Damn, you almost had me there, but then you, a non-native born, said something about "...one thing I must say I don't like..." I say, it is probably best for you to keep that "one thing" to yourself. The same U.S. Customs Service that checked you in, also has an "OUT" door. Yes indeedy, we are a welcoming bunch, but it is genrally bad manners to criticize your host on ANY level while you are in his/her house, eh? I had some misgivings about ths UK when I went there, largely associated with my Irish heritage, but i kept them locked in my heart until I returned home. It wasn't my place to say anything public about my dislikes, as you just did here. Yeah, I realize that you said it wasn't a put down, but, if it wasn't, why bring it up at all?

Oh my goodness, when I have 1, yes 1 misgiving; I'm supposed to shut up, what in the land of free speech!!!! Secondly I'm a Resident of this country and I think I have the right, just as anyone that wishes to slam me about my own country can!!!If you knew me, you would know I slam my own country and people a lot worse than this in England and out !!!! My reference to living in a bubble is this: Allot of people here live in a country that is so big and vast, that they seem to live and breathe society in their radius i.e. 40 mile radius or State. They think that everything is dandy and have no real knowledge that there is much more to this world than the USA. I was in no way trying to be offensive, but point out an observation that me and my wife (who is a Citizen of this country) have seen. My wife seeing this having moved to the UK and observing a different outlook to life and her country. Is that really so bad!!!!!

Oh boy, you are a permanent resident...whoop-ti-do. Yeah, that's right...you don't even get ONE complaint until you are a citizen. Until then, keep your yap shut or don't let the doorknob hit you in the ass on the way out. And, thank you Captain Obvious for the reference to people living on the coasts...you know, where the areas of international trade are? If everyone lived in Colorado or South Dakota, we'd be a 3rd World nation. I have been in nnearly every state in the union and have lived on both coasts, Texas, and the Northern Plains...as well as extensive international travel, so I am hardly a provincial dolt. It may not be intended to be offensive, but it is. yeah, I think Americans need to expose themselves to the rest of the world too, but that is my right as an American Citizen...it is NOT your right as a permanent resident. Most of us know all too well that the rest of the world doesn't have it as well as we do...and that is why we share. All I can say is that I don't want to hear anything negative about my country from someone who is living here under the good graces of our government. Is THAT really that bad? Yes, given some of the stuff I've seen you post, you are supposed to shut up. I wish you well about seeking citizenship, but not if you have ANY reservations for what our fighting men and women have fought and died to keep and preserve. Dig it?

OK, I misread, you meant that they only know about a 40-mile radius from where they live. Wrong again Bonzo!

BTW, if it wasn't for us, you'd be speaking German right about now!

I think that taking all the credit for the end of the World War 2 is a little arrogant. Seeing as America only entered the war FULLY because of Pearl Harbor. Saying that any Englishman/women would agree that the intervention of the US was very much needed and very much appreciated. That's why we are still so very close as nations!!! I shared one thing that I and my wife had misgivings about, it just a shame that the comments had to be so harsh in return. But I appreciate your comments and the fact that we lived or live in nations that believe in free speech!! Thank you for you PM, I appreciated it and hope that even though we disagree in areas, we can both remember the sacrifices that men and women gave us, for us even to comment on things. This I feel is something we will both agree on. My apologies for any offence to you, it was not intended in the way you think. Regards, Pug.
