Good ingredients.

Lamb is the 1st ingredient but once you take out the water content, it would probably be about 4th on the list,

With three grains ahead of the meat, it is therefore a heavy grain content food.

The ingredients are high quality but low in meat protein, therfore only 3 stars.

Lamb meat with the water removed would be Lamb meal. They list lamb with water content first to make people believe it is the first ingredient. The water has to be removed to make kibble and preserve it. Notice that all poor foods, ie: Iams, Purina and the like list water laden lamb and/or chicken first. Good quality foods always list Lamb meal or chicken meals first. Or following a named meat, as long as there is a named meat meal ahead of the first grain listed. Don't fall for the companies sales pitch, they are misleading you as to the meat content. Call them and ask specifically: What percent of the product is meat. Good foods like Innova and Nature's Variety use over 40% meat in their foods. Some cheap foods actually use less 20% meat source, some even use less than 10%. Dogfoodanalysis.com gives this food 2 stars for lack of meat content, I gave it 3 stars because it has no bad products. 3 stars is average, this food is better than the big 4 (iams, nutro, purina, and hills science), but not as good as the first 15 on this site.

They use lamb meat with the water removed. They don't want to call it lamb meal because it is pure lamb meat. This food would not perform as well as it does if it were as grain heavy as you suspect. Just call the companies 800 number if you have any doubts or questions.
