Irish Republican Army (IRA)

reviewed by pugwash01

The IRA was formed in 1969 as a clandestine armed wing of Sinn Fein, a legal political movement dedicated to removing British forces from Northern Ireland and unifying Ireland.

Irish Republican Army (IRA) 1

Updated 03/14/2007 12:45pm  It amazes me that now two people found my review not helpful, do they not have the guts to explain why. So I guess that he or she thinks Killing and murdering innocent people for a cause, is OK. Any kind of murder no matter what the cause, IS WRONG!!!!! Have some guts and air your views, instead of being a coward like most terrorists. I do not agree with the occupation of my country of Ireland. But I detest and disagree with bombs and shootings, aimed at causing mayhem to innocent People- Mothers, Fathers, Children!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The IRA should never be praised nor England for their evil ways!! Totally understand what you are saying and us English should have given back N.Ireland years ago. But I cannot in anyway support the many evil acts that the IRA inflicted on the general public of England. Most of which agree that N. Ireland should be given back and Ireland be one!!! I absolutely abhor any kind of violence against the General public done by England or the IRA. Most of you who have looked into this, your history is good; but remember there were lots of innocent lives wasted, due bombings and shootings!  Before people judge another country, look at your own and ask have we made any mistakes in our history? I'm just as ashamed of what my country has done, as I'am ashamed of what the IRA has done!!!

you'll be ok pug, a little unhelpful vote ever hurt anybody. here's a tip: if you write about controversial things, you will get unhelpful votes, no matter who well written and reasoned your post is. that's the way of ria.

well pugwash, i gave you a helpful for this review because i agree with your point regarding violence. personally, i agree with SOME of their goals but not their methods- no sane person approves of slaughter for whatever reason. i think what you may discover if you look at some reviews on here there is a certain overall bias against this particular side of that conflict- there is something like 8 or 9 anti- nationalist reviews for every 1 that criticizes the paisley point of view...frankly most Americans on here seem to barely know anything about the loyalist terrorists, and maybe some of the virulently anti catholic reviewers on here, of which there are not a few, might begin to understand how galling and insulting it is to read reviews by some people who don't understand what it's like to have your ancestors murdered, jailed, sold into slavery in the caribbean and dispossessed simply for being on 'the wrong side of the reformation' ... that era was a bad time for everyone, but from the perspective of that particular island, they got the brunt of intolerance from the protestant side- i think what galls a lot of people in ireland and those of irish descent is an overall bias against them and far less info on the paisley sorts. and some of the real hardcore fundamentalists on here, not most of em but some- i have little doubt that they're in favor of the uvf and groups like that..

Thank you for your comments they are very much appreciated. Unfortunately when people put unhelpful you can guess, that they don't agree. This upsets me because they don't even want to comment. When there has been so many horrible deaths and persecution, as there has been with Ireland. It makes my blood boil when people justify it with - "Their cause is just!!!" Most of us from England do agree that England has in the past done some unruly things (cruel things at that!) and agree that Ireland should be ONE. None of us can change the past, but we can change the future! Both sides have had some horrible things done and neither are justified in their actions or retaliation!!! I would love to see this country become one and it's horrible past, be that. I just think of the many families destroyed because of this. I'm very passionate about this because I had to watch it all unfold right in front of me!!!! Looking into Irish history and what the English had to endure of late, is horrible and I would not wish it upon anyone. May Ireland find peace soon!!!!
