Health Care 2

Having re-read Lena's review, I'm glad to know that I am in that "lucky" 20%.
I was in the ER twice between 03 and 07. Neither time did I have insurance. Both times the hospital knew it. In 03, when I had an emergency appendectomy, the surgeon told me that I had to stay for two more days- that he would not release me. I told him that I was leaving anyway. Surrounded by three nurses and another physician, he threw a clipboard down and said "leave then".
The only thing that "died" was my savings account.
Gee....guess I was lucky.

Victor: Tort reform won't do a thing. This isn't about being sued, it is about the big insurance companies and HMOs. The problem is that my medical and psychological colleagues fail to realize that the age of private practice is dead.

Glad you're okay :)

Small note:
The study didn't find that 80% of uninsured people DIE in the ER, it found that the rate at which people do die in the ER increases by 80% if those people are uninsured.

FTA: In the study, the overall death rate was 4.7 percent, so most emergency room patients survived their injuries. The commercially insured patients had a death rate of 3.3 percent. The uninsured patients' death rate was 5.7 percent. Those rates were before the adjustments for other risk factors.

So you were actually in the lucky 94.3% as opposed to the lucky 96.7% :)

An 80% death rate would be more like medicine in the Victorian era, when they'd have treated your appendicitis with a healthy bloodletting and some Magic Elixir.

Thank you Lena.
May interest you to know that I got a call about 2 weeks ago. They threatened to put me in collections over $61.00.
I told them to go ahead...Obama will pay it.

Lena commented 5 days ago.
Glad to see you're so confident in the fact that health care reform will pass ;)

Victor83 commented 5 days ago.
Yes....I am confident that Obama and the Dems will trample the US Constitution.

fitman commented 5 days ago.
Speaking of Constitution tramplin', ain't that a bipartisan sport?

Or does it only count when a "Dem" does it?

Lena commented 5 days ago.
Not sure what the constitution has to do with it, but perhaps you'd prefer the GOP's suggested plan? http://voices.washingtonpost.com/ezra-klein/2009/11/congressional_budget_office_th.html

Masters of fiscal conservatism, that lot. Perhaps they're under the tutelage of AIG.

Glad you and Fit are trying to turn this into Dem vs Rep.
Ah, the comic book world in which we live eh?
The Dems are in power, and when the Feds overstep their bounds (in this case grossly), the Constitution has everything to do with it.
That is how libs become libs...you have no idea about the document.

Can anyone explain how, "...ain't that a bipartisan sport?"
becomes, "...trying to turn this into Dem vs Rep."?

I'm stumped.

Victor83 commented 5 days ago.
Fit, stumping you is not unlike giving a wax banana to a chimp. You brought up the term "bipartisan", I did not.
Weak defense of the party in power..."well, gee....the other party is bad too".
