reviewed by johncook

Born in 1948, Al Gore served in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate before being elected Vice President in 1992. A Democrat, Gore was a presidential candidate in 2000.

Al Gore 5

Gore should be commended if only for raising awareness on global warming. After seeing An Inconvenient Truth, I researched both sides of the argument and was dismayed to find all the disinformation and smoke blown by global warming skeptics. It angers me that people are still arguing about whether global warming is man made or not when the scientific consensus is clearly decided - our politicians should be focusing on solutions rather than haggling over what is already clear.

So all the disinformation and smoke-blowing is being done by the skeptics, huh? There are just as many self-serving political agendas among scientists as there are any other field. Scientific concensus, no matter how hysterically it is delivered, does not constitute scientific fact. I'm not saying the earth isn't warming, but we're a long way from identifying the source(s). The last thing the debate needs is a bunch of zealous liberal haranguers, like Big Al.

From a scientific point of view, there is no debate. Yes, there are scientists who are skeptics but as for peer reviewed studies on climate change, there are none that propose global warming is natural. In contrast, the IPCC report features peer reviewed studies from 850 climate scientists, compiled and reviewed by 2500 climate scientists - concluding that it is "very likely" that the source is predominantly manmade. As for hysteria, the IPCC report was toned down by the governments who sanctioned the report. My personal concern is they underplay the danger. But even putting that aside, the conclusions and predictions are chilling. As far as I'm concerned, Al Gore is great for increasing awareness about the issue. But beyond that, what matters is the science behind all the politics.

Few argue that Earth is warming but Gore and his sycophants shoot themselves in the foot with outlandish warnings. I recall the "experts" in the 70's who solemnly swore that we would soon have worldwide famine, run out of natural resources including oil, lose half of all species, rivers would dry up, etc. Naturally, nothing of the sort occurred except laughter over the "predictions". Those whose religion is environmentalism are, by their stridency and outlandish claims, alientating potential allies like conservationists and anyone with half a brain who wants clean air & water. The condenscending lectures from this bunch, 99% of whom know little about Climatology beyond newspaper articles, are both infuriating and elitist.
