Hiwatt 5

During our 1980 tour we played the San Diego sports arena. All four of my other amps died during aq power surge... Not my HiWatts! Those two little amps kept rockin' and were heard throughout the arena for the rest of that evening and the rest of that tour. They continued working flawlessly for the next twenty years. I loved my old Marshall. The Orange was cool too. I still have them along with several fender amps. The old HiWatts are still my all-time favorite for tone, power, quality and bullet-proof reliablity. ...Geo Conner

I had two of those old Orange 120 heads about 15 years ago and 3 Orange 4x12 cabinets. I went thru a terrible divorce and lost all of it. I loved the way they sounded. They had aftermarket master volumes installed on them and would produce the smoothest, coolest distortion you ever heard. I have also owned a couple of old Marshalls. If they are set up right they sound great, I prefer the non-master volume Marshalls personally. They aren't the most reliable old amps though. Right now I am playing thru a Peavey Classic 50, a Peavey Windsor and a Laney Pro Tube 50 that has been modified. I used to hate Peavey but now i am finding them to be the best value for the money and the Classic series sound like boutique amps that would cost 5 o6 times as much.
