"Let us cross over the river, and rest under the shade of the trees." (General Stonewall Jackson, after being shot accidentally by his own men, Chancellorsville, May 2, 1863)

reviewed by CanadaSucks

One of the most charismatic leaders of the Civil War, known especially for his brilliant Shenendoah Valley Campaign of 1862, which is still studied as a masterpiece of maneuver, deception, and initiative. He was accidentally shot by his own men during the battle of Chancellorsville.

The droning romantic notions of the oh-so-noble-yet-tragic-southern-generals has got to go. Jackson was a military genius, but a goofy zealot who wasn't smart enough to fight for the side against slavery. . .and one of the main reasons that the war went on so long was because the northern generals were (in the main) drunks, incompetents, and cowards. . .although the south did have superior officers (Jackson being among them) poetic epitaphs before dying do not erase a career scarred by leading an army that deserved to lose- badly.

Only someone who lacks any understanding of American History during the time of the War of Northern Aggression would think it was fought because of slavery. It became a war against slavery only after the Northern leadership came to undertand that the War not winnable unless the reason switched from States Rights to slavery. Typical yankee flip flop. Most blue-belly yankees did not even want to abolish slavery...read a book.

Time to go to school- on paper the war wasn't about slavery at the start but the economic and political realities are that the single founding reason for the Civil War was about slavery. . .no amount of white-washing and revisionist history will change that. . .any conversation regarding economics and taxes stems from the fiscal benefits and realities of holding slaves. . .Lincoln made the war (on paper) about slavery later on after he (cleverly) worded the conflict as an issue of 'secession' (sp?). . .make sure you don't spout your opinions in a university setting- it will just cause giggles. . .
